Studies on the Antagonistic Effect of Serretia rubidaea for Biofilm Development Capability

Jabun Naher,Shahidul A. Chowdhury,Abdullah A. Mamun,Nuruddin Mahmud,Whahida Shumi,Ruhul A. Khan
This study was performed to compare the growth dynamics of Serretia in single and coculture biofilms condition and also evaluated its antagonistic effect against pathogenic bacteria. One preserved isolated subculture was identified on the basis of their morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics. The isolate was belonged to the genus Serretia and provisionally identified as Serretia rubidaea. This isolate was exposed to different environmental condition. The experiments were carried...

The Spelling Mistakes of Young Greek EFL Learners: A Descriptive Case Study

Fotini-Vassiliki Kuloheri
A constant challenge for Greek primary EFL teachers is the large number of spelling mistakes in their learners’ written performance. Teachers usually feel helpless in understanding and remedying this problem due to non-existent research outputs in the realm of the spelling of Greek young EFL learners. Within this context, the researcher was stimulated to study the particular problem as an English teacher and educational researcher working on SLA. A descriptive case study was conducted into the s...

Methicillin-Sensitive Staphylococcus aureus as a Cause of Lemierre’s Syndrome

Carmen Pérez-Ortiz,Natalia Moya-Notario,Luciano Santana-Cabrera,Beatriz del Amo-Nolasco,Manuel Sánchez-Palacios
The Lemierre’s syndrome (coexistence of oropharingeal infection, septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein and septic embolisms), rarely can be caused by Staphylococcus methicillin sensitive, showing a great virulence because of their capacity to produce a toxin called “Panton-Valentine Leukocidin”. We present the case of a patient who was admitted to our ICU with a clinical picture of septic shock secondary to this syndrome, in which this pathogen was found as the etiologic agent.

Therapeutic Applications of Vitamin D Supplementation on Type 2 Diabetes

Louay Labban
Background: Many studies have found that vitamin D deficiency is associated with impaired human insulin action, suggesting a role in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM). This study investigated the effects of vitamin D3 supplementation on serum HbA1c values and 25(OH) vitamin D concentrations in healthy and diabetic individuals. Methods: 722 individuals aged from 36 to 61 years old were selected (360 males and 362 females) divided into two groups. Healthy male group consisted of ...

Screening of Some Foliar Chemical Insecticides against White Fly (Bemisia tabaci) on Tomato at Metema District, North Gondar, Ethiopia

Eshetu Agegnehu,Yenus Ousma,Asrat Ayalew
Tomato is one of the vegetable crops growing in Ethiopia and important cash crops for small scale growers with a potential for increasing incomes in rural areas, improving the living standards and creating employment opportunities for women and youth. Vegetables in tropical countries are the crops which are often attacked most seriously by arthropod pests. Among the major insect pests, white flies, one of a serious leaf-sucking pest, cause direct damage to plants by sucking plant sap. The experi...

Extraction of Cu(II) Ions in Wastewaters Using New Solid/Liquid Phase Microextraction Technique Based on Incorporating Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes into Polypropylene Hollow Fiber

Es’haghi Zarrin,Ahmadpour Ali,Tanha Ali Akbar,Sayfi Ali,Ayati Ali
This research describes a new design of hollow fiber solid-liquid phase microextraction (HF– SLPME) which was developed for the extraction and measurement of Cu(II) ion in water samples combined with atomic absorption spectroscopy. This method consists of an aqueous feed and the functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (F-MWCNTs) with HNO3 and NaClO, dispersed into n-octanol, are held within the pores and the lumen of a porous hollow fiber as the extractor phase. The presented method allows ...

Demonstration of Apron Star 42 WS Seed Dressing Chemical against Cutworm (Agrotis segtum) on Chickpea using Farmer Research Group Approach at Dembia Woreda, North Gondar, Ethiopia

Eshetu Agegnehu,Zenebe G. Medhin
Ethiopia is the largest chickpea growing country in Africa. Most of the chickpea production is used for domestic consumption as well as for substantial export. However, the national average grain yield in Ethiopia has remained extremely low and owing to different biological and physical constraints. Among these, insect pests have special influence on low level of production and productivity. Cutworm (Agrotis spp.) is one of the important pests of chickpea during seedling stage in Ethiopia and fe...

The Psychosomatic Concept of “Intranatal Inward Orientation” (IIO) as a Background Mode of Experience in the Birthing Process: A Scale Development Study with 73 First-Time Mothers

Werner Stadlmayr, Daniela Bielinski-Blattmann, Sakari Lemola, Kai von Klitzing, Heidi Simoni, Felix Amsler, Daniel Surbek, Johannes Bitzer
Objective: In order to describe maternal intranatal processes from a common psychosomatic perspective, the clinical notion of “intranatal regression” or “intranatal psychophysical withdrawal” was presented. However, this idea of an underlying mode of experience pervading the birthing process has never been explored systematically. We further elaborated on this notion by introducing the concept of Intranatal Inward Orientation (IIO), supporting a psychosomatic approach in modern obstetrics. Metho...

Effect of Red Kidney Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Flour on Bread Quality

D. Manonmani,Soumya Bhol,S. J. D. Bosco
Legumes are important sources of food proteins and provide well-balanced essential amino acid profiles when consumed with cereals and other foods. Apart from their nutritional properties, legume proteins also possess functional properties that play an important role in food formulation and processing. The objective of this work was to study the effects of red kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) flour (RKF) substitution at 5%, 10%, and 25% levels on nutritional, sensory, and textural characterist...
