Neurofibromatosis (NF1) is an autosomal dominant disorder
primarily affecting the development and growth of nerve cell tissues. We report
a rare case of pregnancy with giant plexiform neurofibroma involving the genital
tract with adverse perinatal outcome. A 26-year-old female presented at term in
labour with NF1 and a huge plexiform neurofibroma arising from sacral region, gluteal
region, pelvis and involving left labium majus. She delivered by cesarean section
and the baby had congenital NF1. ...

Chaos appears in the whole process of fiber-optic signal propagation with
one external perturbation due to the absence of damping. Via adding a proper controller,
chaos cannot be suppressed when the controller’s strength is weak. With the increase
of the controller strength, the fiber-optic signal can stay in a stable state. However,
unstable phenomenon occurs in the propagation of the fiber-optic signal when
the strength exceeds a certain degree. Moreover, we discuss the parameters’
sensitivity...

An experimental investigation was carried out to study the structure of
ductile iron castings which were selected to perform the investigation: 1.4% Ni
- 0.3 Mo and 2.4% Ni - 0.3 Mo. After austenitizing at 880℃ for 1.3 hr, the two alloys were austempered at 250℃ and 350℃ for time intervals of 60, 120, 240 minutes. Microstructure observation
and measurement of UTS, and adhesive wear resistances were reported as functions
of austempering time. The results also showed that the obtained structure
pr...

Objective: To evaluate the correlation between ARFI and Child-Pugh classification. Secondary Aims: 1) To compare ARFI values (hepatic, splenic and spleno-hepatic index) from cirrhotic to normal population; 2) To correlate biochemical parameters of liver function and ARFI. Materials and Methods: 58 cirrhotic patients (referenced to US for surveillance or to clarify any hepatic decompensation) were included in this prospective study, as well as 38 healthy subjects who underwent ultrasonography for...

In
this paper we show how the iterative Gauss-Newton method for minimizing a
function can be reformulated as a solution to a continuous, autonomous
dynamical system. We investigate the properties of the solutions to a
one-parameter ODE initial value problem that involves the gradient and Hessian
of the function. The equation incorporates an eigenvalue shift conditioner,
which is a non-negative continuous function of the state. It enforces positive
definiteness on a modified Hessian. Assuming the...

This paper examines the existence
of a hidden agenda in international development i.e. a group of latent ideas to promote social change in “traditional”
societies. The arguments to support and analyse this proposal come from
empirical work during several years and places, with special emphasis in
Colombian ethnic minorities who receive aid from European agencies. This main
idea focuses in three areas that are the part
of the development projects: gender equality, environmental awareness a...

The aroma profile of “tiger nut beverage” (orxata de
xufla) was investigated by headspace solid- phase micro-extraction (HS-SPME)
combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC- MS). Polidimethilsiloxane/divinylbenzene
(PDMS/DVB), carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (CAR/ PDMS), polyacrylate (PA) and
divinylbenzene/carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (DVB/CAR/PDMS) fibers were tested
and compared for sensitivity beyond conditions that might affect the SPME
procedure, such as temperature, concentrati...

This paper presents original research studying the
effects of biocompatible nanoparticles standardized (ICNB) on the permeability
of erythrocytes and eryptosis. The presented evidence demonstrates that
changing orientation and mobility protons of the hydrogen atoms in the pericellular
fluid significantly modify the permeability and physiological activity of
erythrocytes. The leading role of the state of cell membrane and transport
activity enzymes (ATPase) in ensuring its permeability and functi...

Iatrogenic vascular
injuries to the knee in orthopedic surgery are a major concern for surgeons and
a major problem for patients. They are fortunately rare, but it is equally
difficult to process. The first decisions taken as soon as you confirm the
diagnosis are the most important for the patient’s recovery. We did a review of
the cases in our center where they were present simultaneously in the Department
of Orthopaedic Surgery and Vascular Surgery.

We previously reported that the prevalence of oral thrush among Maasai
women of reproductive age in Ngorongoro Conservation Area was abnormally high
(32%) in the absence of immune-compromising diseases such as HIV. This study
was undertaken to test the hypothesis that Maasai women of reproductive age are
prone to oral thrush because they are deficient in micronutrients such as Vitamins A, C, D, and B12, as well as
iron and folate which are known to have immune modulating functions. Method:
The s...
