Comparative Study of Glyphosate and AMPA Determination in Environmental Samples by Two Green Methods

Bruno Molero da Silva, Fernanda Benetti, Maria Olímpia Oliveira Rezende
Glyphosate, N-phosphonomethyl-glycine (GLY), is a systemic post-emergence herbicide that controls weeds with great efficiency whose low cost is reflected in its wide application. In the environment, the presence of aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), its main degradation product, is indicative of the application of GLY to the land. The aim of this study was to develop two analytical methods for the determination of GLY by HPLC-UV and GLY and AMPA by GC-MS, in water, soil and sediment samples. The...

Ionospheric Anomalies Observed by GPS-TEC Prior to the 3rd of July 2013 Uganda’s Earthquake

Enoch Elemo
Recently ionospheric variability remains one of the most intensive studies in the area of ionospheric physics. Despite the massive improved knowledge of its dynamics, the ability to use this data to provide early, as well as valid warning of upcoming earthquakes (seismo-ionospheric coupling) is still controversial. However, anomalous behaviours of TEC in the ionosphere before the occurrence of earthquakes have received several attentions by scientists. In this paper, GPS-TEC variations of 31 day...

Prevalence of Bovine Trypanosomosis in and around Nekemte Areas, East Wollega Zone, Ethiopia

Feyera Gemeda
A cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2010 to April 2011 to determine the prevalence of trypanosomosis and to identify the prevailing species of trypanosomes in cattle present in and around Nekemte. Blood sample were collected from ear vein of 400 cattle and then examined using thin and thick smear method followed by Buffy coat examination. Anemic status was determined by Packed Cell Volume (PCV). Out of 400 samples were examined, 36 (9%) were positive, out of which 26 (0.065%) had...

Classification and Novel Class Detection in Data Streams Using Strings

Rimjhim Singh, Manoj B. Chandak
Data streams are continuous and always keep evolving in nature. Because of these reasons it becomes difficult to handle such data with simple and static strategies. Data stream poses four main challenges to researchers. These are infinite length, concept-evolution, concept-drift and feature evolution. Infinite-length is because of the amount of data having no bounds. Concept-drift is due to slow changes in the concept of stream. Concept-evolution occurs due to presence of unknown classes in data...

A Hybrid Weight-Based Clustering Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

Cheikh Sidy Mouhamed Cisse, Cheikh Sarr
Clustering in wireless sensor network (WSN) is an efficient way to structure and organize the network. The cluster head (CH) forms dominant set in the network responsible for the creation of clusters, maintenance of the topology and data aggregation. A cluster head manages the resource allocation to all the nodes belonging to its cluster. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed clustering approach called Hybrid Weight-based Clustering Algorithm (HWCA). HWCA considers the neighborhood, the ...

Elements of Real Hilbert Spaces Theory

Daniel Sepunaru
We discuss an alternative version of non-relativistic Newtonian mechanics in terms of real Hilbert space mathematical framework. It is demonstrated that the physics of this scheme is in accordance with the standard formulation. Heisenberg-Schrodinger non-relativistic quantum mechanics is considered adequate and complete. Since the suggested theory is dispersion free, linear superposition principle is not violated but cannot affect results of measurements due to spectral decomposition theorem for...

Proximate and Quantitative Phytochemical Analysis of Aframomum chrysanthum

N. Nwachoko, E. B. Essien, E. O. Ayalogu
This work investigates the proximate and quantitative phytochemical composition of Aframomum chrysanthum (AC). The result of proximate analysis showed carbohydrate composition of (65.44% ± 1.7%) to be the highest component, followed by crude protein (13.10% ± 1.2%) and ash with the least value (2.28% ± 0.1%). Quantification of the revealed phytochemical component showed the concentration (μg/ml) of the following in the order: alkaloids > flavonoids > tannins > phenol. The study p...

Liver Abscess Secondary to Asymptomatic Sigmoid Diverticulitis: Case Report and Literature Review

Padmavathi Mali, Sudheer R. Muduganti
Pyogenic liver abscess commonly occurs as a complication of biliary tract and gastrointestinal infections, with diverticulitis and perforated bowel becoming leading causes in recent years. We report the first case of liver abscess as a complication of asymptomatic diverticulitis with no bacteremia, as well as colovesical fistula. And, with this case presentation, we stress the importance of considering diverticulitis in asymptomatic patients with liver abscess, as well as the importance of early...

The Characteristics of the Businesses and Entrepreneurs and Their Relationships with the Competitiveness of the SMEs in México

María Luisa Saavedra García, María Elena Camarena Adame
The aim of this work was to determine the correlation between the characteristics of enterprises and entrepreneurs and competitiveness in SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) in México City. For this purpose the data collected in the first phase of this research were taken, which were collected through field work using direct structured questionnaire to a sample of 400 companies and correlation statistical tests were performed using the method Chi square. The main findings indicate that the level...

Foreign Aid and Its Impact on Democracy in Post-1991 Ethiopia

Habtie Adane
Ethiopia is an aid-dependent Horn of African country that is known to have received various forms of assistance, especially the humanitarian one. With the Cold War getting over, the country started receiving democracy assistance being pledged to realize democratic ideals. This article is concerned with foreign aid and its impact on democracy in Ethiopia in the post-1991 period. Its overall objective is thus to explore issues pertaining to the impact of foreign aid on Ethiopia’s democratization d...
