The Relation between the Pressure Gradient of General Relativity and Its Newtonian Counterpart with Respect to Certain Stellar Models

Rajat Roy
The non-uniqueness of the relation between the pressure gradients of general relativity and its Newtonian counterpart is demonstrated. This may lead to a non-unique relation between the two force laws.

Protective Effect of Ischemic Preconditioning on Hepatic Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rats

Naoki Hashimoto
Aim: Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) protects tissue against ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of IPC on protection of hepatocytes after prolonged I/R injury. Methods: Twenty-four Wistar rats were randomly divided into ischemic preconditioning group (IP), ischemia/reperfusion group (IR) and sham operation group (SO). A model of partial liver ischemia/reperfusion was used, in which rats were subjected to liver ischemia for 90 min prior to reperf...

Bilateral Scleral Posterior Chamber Intraocular Lens Fixation: First Case Made in Togo

Nidain Maneh, Mèba Banla, Komlavi Yayehd, Komi Vonor, Kassoula Batomaguela Nonon Saa, Jean Rateau, Komi Patrice Balo
We present the case of a 65-year-old woman with an aphakia after a cataract surgery at the right eye and a pseudophakia (anterior chamber lens) at the left eye. The two eyes received an intra-ocular lens with sclera fixing of posterior chamber combined with an anterior vitrectomy. An elevated intraocular pressure of 25 mmHg and severe ocular pains were observed immediately after the surgery on the right eye. The far visual acuity (FVA) increased from counting fingers at 5 m (before the surgery) ...

In Vitro Anthelmintic Activity of Mucuna pruriens (DC) and Canarium schweinfurthii (Engl) on Ascaris suum

B. J. Okoli, R. G. Ayo, J. D. Habila, S. L. Japhet, G. I. Ndukwe
The in vitro anthelmintic evaluation of the crude extracts and solvent partitions on Pheretima posthuma and Ascarissuum (eggs and L2 stage) respectively showed significant results at the same concentration (10, 20, 40 and 80 mg/ml). This study provides a clear evidence for usage of Mucuna pruriens and Canarium schweinfurthii as an anthelmintic. The most potent ovicidal partition of C. schweinfurthii (Engl) leaves and bark and leaves ...

Microstructure, Mechanical Properties, Toughness, Wear Characteristics and Fracture Phenomena of Austenitised and Austempered Low-Alloyed Ductile Iron

Nabil Fatahalla, Osama Hussein
Conventional ductile iron (DI) and austempered ductile iron (ADI) alloys were successfully produced. The alloying elements—Ni, Mo, Cr and Mn were added to get as-cast low-alloyed ductile iron (LADI) followed by austempering heat treatment. Hardness was measured for all investigated alloys. A hardness conversion table was deduced for irons investigated. Highest values of calculated quality index (QI) were for ADI alloys implying higher material performance. Impact energy values were attributed to...

Mekuria Asnakew, Chernet Hailu, Habtamu Jarso
Background: In resource limited settings, many human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals lack access to sufficient quantities of nutritious foods, which poses additional challenges to the success of anti-retroviral therapy. Morbidity and mortality related to human immune deficiency virus infection in the developing world remain unacceptably high, despite major advances in human immune deficiency virus therapy and increased international funding for care. Objective: To determine mag...
