The joint behavior of steel fiber and concrete in Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete
(FRC) member is based on the fact that a bond is maintained between the two
materials after the concrete hardens. If a straight steel fiber is embedded
into concrete, a considerable force is required to pull the steel fiber out of
the concrete. If the embedded length of the steel fiber is enough, the steel
fiber may yield, leaving some length of the fiber in the concrete. The bonding
force depends on the friction b...

Effects of different temperatures (10℃, 15 ℃, 20 ℃, 25 ℃ and 35 ℃) and
various water potentials (0, ﹣0.25, ﹣0.5, ﹣0.75, ﹣1.0, ﹣1.25, ﹣1.5 MPa) on seed germination and early seedling development of two
contrasting chickpea ( Cicer arietinum L.) cultivars were studied.
Different temperatures were applied in an incubator by adjusting t...

Greece’s economic crisis has deepened despite the measures taken by the international community in 2010. The Greek economy shrank by 20% between 2008 and 2012 without evidence of growth in 2014. The unemployment was 24.3% in 2012 (7.7% in 2008) and now the maximum rate of long-term unemployment went up to 14.4% [1]. The growing pressure from the Greek governments especially the hospitals budget cuts creates pressure on the effectiveness and efficiency, devastating the Greek healthcare system. Ec...

Sleep complaints played a role in predicting the development of metabolic
syndrome (MetS) in the general population. This cross-sectional survey was
performed among elderly people (age ≥ 65 years) who underwent a health
examination for senior citizens since March 2009 to November 2009. 1181 participants
were surveyed, including 433 men (36.7%) and 748 women (63.3%). We aimed at the
association between self-reported insomnia symptoms and risk factors of MetS in
the elderly population living in no...

137Cs is one of a few
radio contaminants. It stems from the radiation leakage that is left in measurable
quantities in Palestine. The transfer factor (TF) from soil to plant, and the
distribution coefficient ( Kd) of fallout radionuclides 137Cs
in soil samples collected from agricultural areas in the southern part of the
West Bank in Palestine are measured in this study. The TF of 137Cs
ranged from 0.02 to 0.46 with a total average value of 0.18....

By starting from a quaternionic separable Hilbert space as a base model,
the paper uses the capabilities and the restrictions of this model in order to
investigate the origins of the electric charge and the electric fields. Also,
other discrete properties such as color charge and spin are considered. The
paper exploits all known aspects of the quaternionic number system and it uses
quaternionic differential calculus rather than Maxwell based differential
calculus. The paper presents fields as mo...

This comparative
study, focused on the anion kinetic of band 3 protein of pig erythrocytes, investigates in vitro the metabolic functionality
of the red blood cells of this mammal which show particular characteristics of
the cell membrane and significant stoichiometric variations of several
cytosolic components. Pig red blood cells compared to human ones, are
characterized by a higher anion flux strongly modulated by the conformational
transition state (T-R) of hemoglobin; these findings ...

Background & Objectives: Accelerated recovery approaches decrease the
stress response, improve the functions of organs and thus shorten the recovery
process postoperatively. Nurses, as a member of health care team, have the key
role in these applications. This research was carried out with the aim of
analyzing the ERAS methods which applied to the patients in surgical clinics. Method:
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2013 to include 194
patients who underwent a surgical i...

In the global meetings among governments, IGO and NGO, a hidden premise
is that the process of climate change can be not only halted but reversed, if
and only if there could finally be coordination of a global warming set of
counter-measures. Somehow, global warming would be stabilised at 2C, and all countries
would reduce their GHC emissions slowly but consistently over the coming
decades. Given the costs of such measures in terms of economic development, it
is said that a super fund put up by ...

In the context of climate change and
ecological disruptions, this study focuses on the diagnosis of the changes
taking place in the microtidal environment of the Southeast lagoon ecosystems
of Togo. To do this, a diachronic analysis of soil classification occupation of
two Land sat satellite images (TM and ETM 1986 to 2011) was performed with
ground verification. This analysis on two dates revealed the successive states
to characterize the main environmental changes that have affected the lagoon...
