Improvement Cycle for Yield Ability of Crop Variety

Peizhan Tian
Data on historical evolution of different crop cultivars in seventy years were further analyzed and big and small cycle of improvement of yield ability, alternating cycle improvement among number of ear per unit area, seed weight per ear, light absorption coefficient in community (or plant type), was first found. Each of big cycle was forty years. First big cycle from 1940 to late 1970, cross breeding was conducted on basis of arrangement and evaluation of local variety under situation of mainta...

Palynology as a Tool to Distinguish between Propolis and Geopropolis: Southern Brazilian Samples

Ortrud Monika Barth, Alex da Silva de Freitas
Propolis is a product elaborated by honey bees (Apis) and comprises plant resins, bee wax, glandular secretions of the worker bees and pollen grains. Geopropolis is a product elaborated by stingless bees and comprises similar compounds of honey bees and soil, mud, clay, earth or sand. The present study intends to distinguish between propolis and geopropolis using pollen analysis. A total of 12 samples were obtained in the Southern Brazilian macro-region and processed by standard meli...

Criticality Analysis on Value-at-Risk Model of Loan-to-Value Ratios Decision in Inventory Financing of Supply Chain Finance

Zhigao Liao, Xin Yu, Jiuping Xu
Most literatures prefer loan-to-value ratios (LTV) decisions in supply chain finance (SCF) on the way of profit maximization. This paper attempts to discuss the relationship between LTV and market risk of the loan in inventory financing of SCF from the perspective of value at risk (VaR) for the critical value of LTV corresponding to extreme value of loan VaR to prevent the bank from the risks caused by LTV decisions under the extreme position of price-decline in commodity market. Different from ...

Olfactory Groove Meningioma Extension to Paranasal Sinus and Nasal Cavity: Combined Approach by Unilateral Subfrontal and Endoscopic Endonasal

David Shrestha, Feng Liang, Bibek Gyanwali
The local extension of olfactory groove meningioma into the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity eroding underlying bone in young patients is considered as an unusual and extremely rare event. We report the case of a 25-year-old female of primary growth of olfactory groove meningioma extension to left ethmoidal sinus and nasal cavity, presented with sudden onset of seizure after delivering a baby. Although olfactory groove meningioma can grow to extreme size with unnoticed symptoms, frequent nasal...

Theoretical and Practical Implications of Applying Theory of Reasoned Action in an Information Systems Study

Odoyo Collins Otieno, Samuel Liyayla, Benson Charles Odongo
Theory of Reasoned Action was formulated by social psychologist [1]. The theory resulted from attitude research using the Expectancy Value Models. Even though this theory can be applied in studying a number of research cases in Information Systems discourse, it has not been extensively used, and in cases where it has been used, it has mainly set the stage for other theories such as Technology Acceptance Model, Unified Theory of Acceptance and Utilization of Technology and Innovation Diffusion Th...

Delay in Tuberculosis Diagnosis among Tuberculosis Patients at the Three Hospitals: Asella, Robe and Abomsa of Arsi Zone, Oromia Regional State, March, 2015

Abdulbasit Hamza, Meaza Demissie, Sisay Gare, Getu Teshome
Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health problem. Delay in tuberculosis diagnosis may worsen the disease and increase transmission within the general population. This study estimated the prevalence of diagnosis delay and its determinants. Objective: To measure the magnitude of patient and health service delay and identify the factors associated with the delay. Methodology: A facility based cross-sectional study design was conducted at the three hospitals of Arsi Zone from Dece...

Atheists Score Higher on Cognitive Reflection Tests

Sergio Da Silva, Raul Matsushita, Guilherme Seifert, Mateus De Carvalho
We administrate the cognitive reflection test devised by Frederick to a sample of 483 undergraduates and discriminate the sample to consider selected demographic characteristics. For the sake of robustness, we take two extra versions that present cues for removing the automatic (but wrong) answers suggested by the test. We find a participant’s gender and religious attitude to matter for the test performance on the three versions. Males score significantly higher than females, and so do atheists ...

Hydrogen Storage in VNx-Hy Thin Films

Viktor Bryk, Aleksey Guglya, Aleksandr Kalchenko, Ivan Marchenko, Yuriy Marchenko, Elena Solopikhina Melnikova, Victor Vlasov, Evgeniy Zubarev
Vanadium or its alloy-based hydrides are intensively studied at the moment with regard to their use as hydrogen absorbents. Most experiments were carried out using “bulk” materials. This paper uses ion beam-assisted deposition technology (IBAD) to create thin-film nanocrystalline VNx-Hy hydrogen storages. The transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to study the initial stages of the film formation. The main mechanisms of the formation of ...

Choice of Management in a Rare Case of Symptomatic Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome Type B

Choe Yee Xian, Rafiq Shajahan, Puay Sheng Hwa, Naganathan Pillai, Ganesh Kasinathan
Introduction: Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome type B is a congenital condition involving abnormal electrical conduction between the atria and the ventricles that provide an accessory pathway (AP) for a re-entrant tachycardia circuit. Background: This case report illustrates a 28- year-old male who presented with multiple episodes of rapid, regular palpitations associated with dizziness and nausea. These episodes of palpitations often resolve spontaneously. Physical examination revealed norm...

Preparation of Cr2O3-Ta2O5 Composites Using RF Magnetron Sputtering

Kenta Miura, Takumi Osawa, Yuya Yokota, Osamu Hanaizumi
We prepared Cr2O3-Ta2O5 composite films using our RF magnetron co-sputtering method for the first time. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the films annealed at 700℃, 800℃, 900℃, and 1000℃ were evaluated. From their XRD patterns, the Cr2O3- Ta2O5 film annealed at 700℃ seemed to be almost amorphous, and the one annealed at 800℃ seemed to be hexagonal Ta2O5...
