The English sound system differs from Arabic regarding places of articulation. Some of the English consonants do not exist in Arabic and vice versa. However, both languages share common palatal /j/. Arabic speakers find it difficult to pronounce /v/ sound and use /f/ instead. They also substitute /t/ and /d/ for /?/ and /e/. Arab speakers cannot pronounce the flap /s/ but stress the written /tt/. In English, /t/ is an aspirated alveolar but considered non-aspirated denti-alveolar in Arabic. As f...

Chemical water treatment problems such as disinfection by-products (DBPs) generation have urged on the search for better water treatment technologies such as electrochemical water technologies that have been applied successfully in different water/wastewater pollutants removal. However, their large expansion is hindered by similar DBPs troubles. Throughout the electrochemical process, such carcinogenic substances can be produced depending on the electrode material and applied voltage. This work ...

In this paper, we have discussed the coloration mechanism based on visible absorption spectra testing by selecting three typical samples of Luodian jade with white, pallor and cyan. The attribution analysis of absorption spectra showed that absorption of Luodian jade in visible light mainly includes charge transfer spectrum of Fe2 → Ti4 (at 490 nm - 500 nm) and Fe2 → Fe3 (at 523 nm - 536 nm, 646 nm - 657 nm), electron transition 6A1 → 4T2 (4G) of Fe3 (at 615 nm - 632 nm, 685 nm - 694 nm) an...

Since the eutrophication of lakes stays a more and more spread event, cyanobacterial blooms are happening in numerous regions throughout the world. Even if numerous studies have been published, there is presently no outstanding technique for eliminating bloom. This review discusses the health hazards related to cyanotoxins, causes of tastes, and odors in water supplies. To deal with algae and cyanotoxins, the main engineers’ tasks are briefly introduced. A special focus is accorded to the relati...

Hydroponic is a subset of hydroculture, which is a method of growing plants without soil by instead using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent. The study aimed to assess the behavior of Minetto and Blonde de Paris varieties of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) in hydroculture. The experiments tanks have been installed in Talanga? Micro-garden site, located in Kimbanguiste Church at Brazzaville. The lettuce seeds were sown in a nursery tank, and then transplanted into 4 hydroponic production t...

The paper examines the direction of causality between industrial action and economic growth in Nigeria over the period 1986-2018 using endogenous growth model. This was with the view to determining whether or not man- day-lost to industrial crisis in the country through high numbers of industrial action Granger caused economic growth in Nigeria. Annual time series data such as man-day-lost, Gross Domestic Product, Consumer Price Index, Labour Force Participation and Gross Capital Formation were ...

Ten years ago, I was asked by a health agency about my opinion concerning the guidelines for drinking water quality. I suggested fixing the maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) to zero ng/L, once and for all for each pollutant. Such a proposition is founded on the fact that regularly the MAC is lowered following some considerations like 1) the lethal dose determination and toxicity studies, 2) the progress recorded in analytical methods and water treatment technologies and, 3) the technical-ec...

Chinese characters contain three levels of visual information: strokes, radicals, and structures. Stroke, as the basic unit of Chinese characters, is the foundation of the formation of Chinese characters. Some research has shown that strokes can enhance the semantic and orthographic representation in the process of Chinese character acquisition. This shows that the processing of Chinese characters is based on feature processing. This is consistent with the feature processing theory of letter and...
