Abstract

Research on basketball development mostly focuses on North America, Europe, and Asia with little attention paid to African basketball. There is still a huge gap on research talk about basketball in African countries including Rwanda. Through literature review, data analysis, and questionnaire surveys, this study examines the current status of development of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and explores its influence on the development of basketball in Rwanda, offering a clear African perspective. With feedback from Rwandan basketball players, coaches, referees and fans as research participants, we can comprehensively understand the impact mechanism and effect of the BAL on the development of Rwandan basketball. The results showed that the development of the league can promote the popularization of basketball nationwide, the competitive level of the league has a positive impact on Rwandan basketball, the league can provide financial support for Rwandan basketball, the league can promote international exchange and cooperation and also can inspire young generations.
